Here at the comedy4cast studio we've been working on a new format for this year's dog days. Sure, like in years past, there will be an actual odd news story, but that's not all. So, let's get started with "Odd News+"!

STORY 1: NEW DISNEY MUSICAL

CLINTON

Here are our Odd News stories for Saturday, August 10, 2024.

First up, in theater news, Disney has announced plans to bring another one of it's animated classics to the Broadway stage. Make plans now to see "Victory Through Air Power: The Musical," coming to the Winter Garden in 2027. According to Disney, "this one is sure to bomb."

STORY 2: ANCIENT COINS

CLINTON

Now lets get to our actual, for-real Odd News story...

The Lublin Provincial Conservator of Monuments, which, surprisingly is an organization, not a person, recently revealed the discovery of various ancient treasures, including silver coins. But there was something odd about some of the cache of ancient cash.

English, man. English.

An organization referred to as the "Group of Explorers" stumbled upon coins, fibules, knives and various types of tools using metal detectors.

Side note: Who here immediately wants to join a team called "Group of Explorers"? Raise your hands!

The Group of Explorers were searchig the grounds of Ksipol a village in Poland, and unearthed denars, or coins, minted between the years 138 and 251.

Some of the coins featured the faces of former Roman Emperor's Antonius Pius and Mark Aurelius.

But all that glitters is not silver. Several coins in the find were identified as counterfeits. Say it ain't so, Group of Explorers! Sayt it ain't so!

Actually, the counterfeits were not the product of some modern day hanky panky. For instance, an illegible silver coin in the group is believed to have been made by the Goths from the Wielbark culture, and a counterfeit Pius coin made by the Goths from a camel culture.

You or I might find it hard to distinguish a real Roman coin from a counterfeit. However, experts know of certain "tells" which can give it away.

In this case, I hope it's tiny text around the edge of the coins that say "Visigoths rule!"

But, the big story here, again, is the Group of Explorers. The first fan club meeting is next week.

We'll be back tomorrow with more Odd News+ -- if we can get these strange login issues resolved.
