From the desk of John Beresford Tipton...(as relayed by Richie Rich)

Many of you may recognize my name. For the past 50 years, I have worked for a wealthy individual who has indulged himself by giving away one million dollars apiece to persons whom he has never met, all the while remaining totally anonymous.

In a radical departure from selecting only individuals, my employer has instructed me to place one-million dollars on the 'Table of Random Things'. He is doing this to continue his tradition of benefactor, but more importantly, to conduct his own Social Experiment. He wishes to observe the human traits of need and greed.

In doing so, there are strict stipulations:

  1. No one may take the entire amount. There must always be something left on the table for others.
  2. Once an individual has approached the table, that person cannot return for a second helping.
  3. You must state the amount that you have taken and the reason for taking that amount.

A copy of these instructions must be posted on or near the table for all participants to read.

I have now placed the amount of one-million dollars in small bills on the table. I will be observing the results and reporting back to my employer. The experiment has begun.

Back to the [virtual] Table or Random Things.
